Would you like to have an unforgettable party for your next birthday? What better way to celebrate your birthday than with the Athens Area Humane Society? Pet lovers are invited to be a Party Animal and share their birthday celebration with the animals at the shelter.

Birthday party fees go directly toward the thousands of animals we care for yearly. Parties are offered every Saturday from 3-5 pm. Maximum of 12 per party. For more information, please read our FAQs below!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a maximum number of people (12) allowed? Can I bring more?

Our maximum limit (12) for a party ensures that each party guest gets time to interact with the animals in our care.

Our shelter has six cat and seven dog interaction rooms available to the public. Birthday parties are hosted on Saturdays during our shelter’s open hours, and future pet parents may be meeting pets for potential adoption in those shared spaces. A party size limit of 12 accommodates for any space or time limits, as well as for the behavioral capacity of the animals in our care.

You may exceed the party size limit of 12 if your party includes chaperones who do not want to interact with animals but want to stay with their children. We welcome them to do so! Along with any family members who simply want to come for the birthday boy/girl but not interact with AAHS’ adoptable pets.

What does the typical party schedule look like?

2:30-3:00 PM: Chaperones may arrive early to decorate/set up our conference room for the party
3:00-3:30 PM: Party activity in the conference room
3:30-4:30 PM: Animal interactions
4:30-5:00 PM: Cake/presents

Please note: all schedules are subject to change based on your desires/needs for the party. This timing reflects our suggested party outline. The AAHS party host will keep track of the time and adjust the schedule accordingly.

What conference room "party activities" are available?

You may bring an activity to do! Activities we have in-house include Bingo (we do not have prizes), Jeopardy (must coordinate with Eve Dennard, party host, prior to party), face painting, drawing on white board (a kid favorite!), and various whiteboard interactive games (charades, Pictionary, hangman).
